My First blog: a blog about a blog.

Blog it!
I really have been meaning to start a blog for around two years now, so the ICT module I am talking this year has finally kicked me into gear :) For my first ever blog, as mentioned in the title, I will be blogging about someone else's blog - Larry Ferlazzo's Website of the day blog to be specific (Click his name for a link to his blog or visit my link list in the sidebar on the left - this also has some links to a few other ELT based blogs I read).

I came across this blog in my search for some blog inspiration and it really didn't disappoint. I particularly liked the links to specific content and his favorite posts / best of series.  Since he has been running the blog since 2007, and still posts regularly, to say there is A LOT of content is an understatement - having the links at the top of the homepage really does help with navigation and this has given me some ideas about my own blog (now I just need the content 😉 ). I also like that once a post has been read the link to the post changes colour - allowing the viewer to easily identify the posts they've read.  One thing I did think could be improved was the actual information about the blog - although Larry does have a link on the home page to a post, which tells new viewer where to start - he doesn't actually mention who the content is for and when clicking his more recent post don't even mention that the links / content he is sharing is for teaching purposes (see this post for an example).  This makes is a bit confusing for newbies (like me) visiting his blog.

Anyway, I'd love to hear the bits you like / think could be improved about my blog - since I am new to this and PLEASE feel free to send  links to blogs for inspiration my way ☺️

Thanks for reading,
Katie

  1. Hi Katie, This is a great start as you sound really natural and 'blog-like'! I like the way you have embedded the links in your text although the first one to Larry's website doesn't seem to work (might need fixing). I agree that Larry's website is a mine of information but some of it is a bit loosely linked to teaching like the post you highlight. I think you've started well here with a graphic and an emoji - visual support (sub headings, pictures, bullet points) is the way to go with a blog! I look forward to reading about the tools you've reviewed in your next posts!

  2. Hi,Katie. Thank you for your sharing. I also agree with you that Larry Ferlazzo's blog can increase clearer guiedlines because of his numerous posts. Sometimes the readers will feel confuse in his blog.
